What is salash and why go there

What is salash and why go there
Salash or HOMESTEAD is a complex of residential buildings, farm facilities for livestock and land processing. The name Salash comes from the Hungarian word szallas – home, shelter.
Salashi were created in the first half of the 19th century and were places where shepherds and later ploughmen lived. Their original purpose was to provide summer housing for people to work the land and drive out livestock, and later their owners became permanent residents on their property.
The largest number of Salash was built around 1848, and after world war II, many of them were demolished. Today there are about 100 salashi, of which 25 are adapted for visiting and living tourists.
Most often, tourists from different countries or local residents from urban areas come to salashi to feel the magic of traditional lifestyle and farming, as well as to enjoy the local culture and gastronomy.
The centuries-old tradition and culture is partially preserved in Salash, which is typical for the vast territory of Vojvodina.
What is salash and why go there
Today, Salash is a tourist attraction in the form of residential buildings, restaurants, and places to spend free time.
Salas is a synonym for rural tourism, where you can go back to the past for a short time and feel the charm of the Salas of Vojvodina.
What is salash and why go there
Salashi are recognizable by popular music ensembles in Vojvodina, hospitality, rich and delicious food, and the multi-ethnic nature of the peoples living in Vojvodina.
On one Salash you can enjoy the rural lifestyle, nature, on the other-sleep on old beds with hand-embroidered linens that smell of quince and other fruits.
On the third – to get acquainted with the traditional way of making bread and make it yourself, on the fourth-to ride a Horse carriage or go to a riding school and try to ride a horse.
Hospitality of Vojvodina, a rich selection of traditional dishes and drinks, music and an unforgettable atmosphere — a combination of the past and present remains unchanged at each Salash.
